Charles Raymond Rhodes Sr., 92, a Korean War veteran and retired General Motors employee, passed away on August 14, 2024. He is remembered for his contributions to farming and his love for John Deeres, Chevrolets, and Cardinals baseball.

Charles Raymond Rhodes Sr., 92, of Marble Hill passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at the StoneBridge Senior Living Facility in Marble Hill. He was born March 21, 1932, to P.F. and Della Robins Rhodes in Bessville

Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Engineers during the Korean War, where he received the Korean Service Medal with four stars.

He retired from General Motors after 30 years and spent the remainder of his life farming. He and his beloved wife were one of the first in the area to establish a rotational cattle grazing operation.

He loved John Deeres, Chevrolets and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, although he hadn’t been please with their performance this year.

Charles is survived by his wife of 69 years, Leora Rhodes; son, Charles Rhodes Jr.; daughter, Katie (Kevin) Godsey; brother, Winferd Rhodes; grandpup, Taz; and special kitty, Tommy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 18, and funeral Monday, Aug. 19, at the Hutchings-Pendergrass Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Randy Poole officiated the service. Burial, with military honors, followed at Plainview Cemetery.
