In a town filled with a variety of niche shops, Timeless Treasures will be another option.

Carol Sweezer of Park Hills opened her new business in mid-November.

“It’s an antique store,” she said. “I just knew there was a lot of beautiful items in here that I wanted people to enjoy and to have in their homes instead of sitting here collecting dust.”

The building has housed antiques for several years, according to Sweezer.

“I got hold of the people who were renting it out, and told them I’d want to rent it, and kind of get this building going," she explained.

The marketing aspect, such as coming up with a name and designing a logo, didn’t take too long.

“That was the easy part,” she said. “The hardest part was just bringing stuff down and getting things priced because there were prices on them but not what prices I wanted to charge. I had to figure out what it’s worth compared to what people would want to pay.”

Located at 209 First St., she isn’t planning a regular set of hours.

“There’s really no certain time,” she said. “I’m going to keep a sign on the door, plus I’ve got followers on Facebook now because of this, I’m just going to let people know when I’m going to be here. It’ll be for sure four or so days a week.”

So far, the antique selections include records, jewelry, furniture, collectible cars, dishes, toys and more.

“I was really surprised,” she said, explaining how customers have been drawn to unique items such as the jewelry and other collectibles. “It’s been a mixture.”

While she’s just getting started, Sweezer is optimistic more will be in store, as in available, since she still needs to go through items from the building’s second floor.

“The upstairs is just full,” she said. “Eventually we’re going to have it open, but it is just a piled-up mess right now.”

Sweezer, who is not originally from Bollinger County, admitted she was uncertain about opening a business.

“I lived here years and years ago,” she said. “I raised my kids and moved (away).”

That was in the early 2000s. Her time so far has been positive.

“The community has really been more than I expected,” she said. “It’s been fun, and I knew it was going to be a challenge as soon as I opened that door, but it was worth it. The people have been awesome, it’s been a really good experience.”
