Megan Hill was sworn in as the Bollinger Clerk on Monday, Dec. 30. It is a job she has been in training for the past two months. The training “went good” Hill said, who admitted it was a bit overwhelming at times.
Hill replaces outgoing Clerk Brittany Howard, who announced last fall she would be resigning at the end of 2024.
“In early November it was really chaotic because of the elections, and it was a big election with it being a presidential election,” Hill said. “I didn’t have a whole lot of time to learn. Then it slowed down for a bit. Then she started training me on preparing for budgets, learning those things. That’s pretty much what we’ve been working on all of December — budgets.”
A 2009 graduate of Woodland High School, Hill spent seven years with the Bollinger County Recorder of Deeds Office.
“I’ve been recently looking for jobs to fit the degrees that I have,” Hill said. “Brittany said she was leaving and thought I’d be good for this job.”
Hill is a lifelong resident of Bollinger County.
Challenges of the new job
“I’m more nervous because now it’s all on me,” she said. “She’s gone, and I don’t really have her to ask.”
Amy Ennis serves as the county’s deputy clerk. Prior to Hill coming on board, another individual, Grace Seabaugh, assisted with the clerk's office near election time.
Jan. 10 is the next deadline Hill is working to complete tasks by. On that day, the 2025 budget for all of the county departments are due.
Due to the winter storm over the past weekend, the Bollinger County Courthouse was closed, prompting the cancellation of the weekly commissioner's meeting.
