Meadow Heights’ junior varsity boys basketball team went 2-1 at its own tournament Dec. 9-12, earning a third-place finish at the eight-team event.
The Panthers defeated Leopold 57-38 on Dec. 12. Meadow Heights trailed 15-10 after the opening quarter but then outscored the Wildcats 21-10 in the second quarter to take a 31-24 halftime lead. The lead grew to 51-30 with just one quarter remaining.
Isaiah Long scored 22 points to pace Meadow Heights while Kamden Hays added 21. Long (10 points) and Hays (eight points) combined for 18 of the Panthers’ 20 points in the third quarter.
Leopold’s Alex Hampton collected a team-high 16 points while Skyler Hoesli contributed nine points.
Other place games
Perryville defeated St. Vincent Perryville 71-26 in the seventh place contest Dec. 12. Perryville led 19-4 after the first quarter and was in front 32-12 at halftime. Ethan Pohlman and Bryce Weber each scored 10 points. Teammate Levi Pyland contributed eight points. St. Vincent got a team-high six points from Cain Clifton.
Woodland earned a fifth-place finish by defeating Oak Ridge 69-21 Dec. 12.
Logan Cook collected 18 points in the victory, while teammate Daylynn Barks tallied 10 points. Oak Ridge got a team-high nine points from Weston Riggs.
Dec. 11 contests
Arcadia Valley defeated Meadow Heights 52-20 in a Dec. 11 semifinal contest. Kam Hays scored six points to lead the Panthers, who trailed 10-7 after the first quarter and 18-11 at halftime. It was 35-18 after three quarters and the Panthers managed just two points in the fourth quarter while the Tigers scored 17 again. Brayton Jarvis scored 10 points — including two fourth-quarter 3s — to lead Arcadia Valley while teammate Knox Beard added nine points.
Oak Ridge got 17 points from Hayden McFall and 10 points from C.J. Bishop in defeating St. Vincent 51-35 Dec. 11. The contest was tied at 11 after just one quarter while the Blue Jays built a 24-20 hafltime advantage. Oak Ridge outscored the Indians 16-8 in the third quarter to take a 40-28 lead into the final quarter.
Dec. 9 recaps
Meadow Heights limited St. Vincent to single digits in each of the first three quarters on its way to a 46-32 win over St. Vincent Perryville Dec. 9. The Panthers led 14-3 after the opening quarter and 28-12 at halftime.
Kamden Hays made eight of his team’s 17 two-point field goals and finished with 20 points in the victory. Long added nine points while Riley Smith added seven points.
Braxton Lauder hit four of his team’s eight 3-pointers and scored 14 points while Clifton added 10 points.
Saxony Lutheran earned a 48-47 win over Woodland in a quarterfinal contest, then defeated Leopold 42-30 to advance to the Dec. 11 championship. In that contest, Saxony defeated Arcadia Valley 49-32 to take first place. The Crusaders took control of a close game at halftime — 23-22 in favor of the AV Tigers — then limited the Tigers to four points in the third quarter and five in the fourth.
Landon Buchheit scored 13 points to lead Saxony while teammate Henry Klaus contributed 12 points. Corbyn Hayes tallied 13 points to lead Arcadia Valley.
