Work continues to progress on the third floor of the Bollinger County Library in Marble Hill.
Eventually, in mid-2025, the completion of renovations and repairs will lead to the development of the Mayfield Entrepreneurial Center.
The space of the structure reserved for an elevator has been a focus in recent weeks, with a portion of the second floor boarded off. On the third floor, those working on the project were clearing bricks where the elevator will get installed.
“They are trying to get as far as they can with the elevator work before any bad weather hits, and winter truly gets here,” said Eva Dunn, Bollinger County librarian and member of the Mayfield Entrepreneurial Committee, which will meet again Wednesday, Dec. 18, at noon, at the library.
Those serving on a committee for the Mayfield Entrepreneurial Center meet monthly. In early November, those in attendance took the opportunity to check on the work being done to the library’s third floor.
Concrete pouring occurred earlier this week, Dunn said.
The elevator work include digging a large hole or pit. The project’s interior work can be completed in any temperature, according to Dunn.
Final completion of the work is estimated to be June or July of 2025.
Penzel Construction is the project’s general contractor. Phil Penzel, the owner of Penzel Construction, has a connection to the original building project. His grandfather, Linus Penzel, was involved with building the Mayfield structure in the 1930s. Construction began on the three-story structure in 1925, and completed in 1927. When in use by the college, it served as the art and science building.
