Leopold School District cancels classes on Sept. 9 to mourn the loss of a student. Counselors and staff will be available, and all sporting events are postponed. Community prayer service organized.

The unexpected death of a student prompted Leopold schools officials to cancel classes Monday, Sept. 9.

Anthony "Tony" Herbert Beussink, died Sept. 7, 2024.

The following message was posted to the school district's Facebook page Saturday, Sept. 7, shortly after 7 p.m.

"Our school family has suffered a tremendous loss. Due to a loss of a member of the Leopold School District, school will not be in session Monday (9/9/2024). We will not be running a bus for CTC on Monday. Counselors and staff will be available for any students who feel as if they need to talk to someone. Campus will also be open at 8:45 am for any students who would like to be with their friends during this time. Additionally, all sporting events scheduled for Monday are canceled. Reschedules will be announced.

The Leopold student group FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) organized a community prayer service Sunday, Sept. 8 at the shrine.

All families and community members were welcome to attend. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers."
