The week of October 21-24 was quite a busy week for the Leopold High School students, even though it was only a four-day week.
Spirit Week is always a big event for the Wildcats, and this year was no exception. All week, the students dress up in a wide array of costumes in order to support the volleyball and cross country teams on their way to district tournaments. The students must dress up on participation days for points, and on judging days, the top three costumes for both the boys and girls categories are voted on by the teachers.
Each class was also assigned a theme to decorate their section of the high school hallway. The theme was "Holidays", with seniors having Christmas, juniors with St. Patrick’s day, sophomores decorating for Easter, and the freshman with Valentine’s Day. Throughout the beginning of the week, when students had free time they could be found hanging decorations from the ceiling of the hallway or wrapping locker doors as presents. As for dressing up, Monday was Opposite Day. Strolling through the halls were many interesting pairs, from a pirate and a princess, to love and hate, and even the tortoise and the hare. On Tuesday, the students dressed up as their holiday. Everyone looked very festive, with Christmas hats, Easter baskets, and more. Wednesday was Comic Day, and everywhere you looked you could see a well-known character, from Gru and his minions from the Despicable Me comic, to Batman and Joker! Lastly, on Thursday was Blue and White day. A pep assembly was held, where the volleyball and XC members who were about to go into Districts were called onto the floor. Then, the spirit leaders pumped up the crowd with a fun game for the volleyball players to show off their skills. The pep assembly concluded with the winners of the various Spirit Week events. The prize, the coveted Spirit Stick, was won by the Senior Class.
The students look forward to the next Spirit Week, which will be held during basketball district tournaments.
