Many who resided there have opted for federal buyouts of their properties, and the demolition of those structures remains ongoing.

Many of the homes being demolished at this time are located on Old Glenallen Road, which is north of Highway 34 and crosses Little Crooked Creek into Short Street via a bridge that was closed due to safety concerns.

Ron Kucera of Jackson was handling demolition, using an excavating Monday, Dec. 9, to continue removing portions of residential properties which were a part of a federal buyout program. A fatal tornado that touched down in April 2023, followed by a flood event in August 2023 left many structures in the area damaged beyond repair.
